PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN’S FEBRUARY 2012 CIRCLES

Greetings from your PW Moderator, Liz Snead.  It is past time for the Coordinating Team’s semi-annual meeting so we’ll meet February 12th at 12:15 in the parlor.  The CT oversees missions that are done by the entire group of Presbyterian Women such as the Scottish Tea and the annual Birthday Offering luncheon.  This is in addition to missions done by each circle and ovals.  Ovals (Other Valuable Assets in the Lord’s Service) are female members of the church who do not want to attend monthly circle meetings, but who are Presbyterian Women and participate in many of our mission projects.  The Elizabeth Ovals will be assembling the personal care kits for the women who will be our guests during CARITAS week.

There is a vacancy on our CT.  If anyone wants to be elected as Vice-moderator, please let me know.  I can be contacted by email, lizsnead@gmail.com, or by telephone 804-674-5389.

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN

My thanks to all the women who participated in PW’s annual Scottish Afternoon Tea.  Under the leadership  of Winki Lampe, everyone had the opportunity to join in mission in her own way.  Some baked and made sandwiches, some helped set up and clean up.  Barbara Reid coordinated our Fair Trade coffee sales with Rach Clay’s assistance.  At the same time, we had the opportunity to contribute to the Thank Offering that helps support women’s and children’s ministries in the U.S. and abroad.  Thank you for your generousity that raised close to $500 for this cause.                                                                                                  Liz Snead, Moderator

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN STAMPS FOR MISSION

Do you know how used postage stamps can be a mission for Congo? The Stamps for Mission project used old postage to raise money for Christian education in Congo. Trim out used postage stamps and place them in the gold box on the PW bulletin board. Adele Robertson will send the stamps to Peggy Reinhold, “The Stamp Lady,” now residing at Sunnyside Presbyterian Home outside Harrisonburg. Peggy sells them to stamp dealers, the money being used for the printing press in Congo where native language Christian Education materials are printed. Funds also pay for Bibles and hymnals for pastors and lay leaders, scholarships for pastors to attend seminary in Congo and for their further education in Belgium. Stamp sales this year so far have netted $8,210.28. Commemorative postage has value. When you trim, leave a ½ inch border around each stamp. Do not worry if you are saving the “right” stamps. Peggy has friends at Sunnyside who sort them. Of course, common flag stamps and “forever” stamps have no value to collectors. Wonder what to do with that old stamp collection from when you were a kid? Peggy will turn it into Bibles! Commemorative stamps cost no more for you but they can help spread the gospel in Congo!
