IT’S      C A R I T A S      TIME!

CARITAS (Congregations Around Richmond Involved To Assure Shelter)

CARITAS week is Feb. 4 – 10.  Southminster will provide shelter and meals for 40 homeless WOMEN.   We need food donations and lots of volunteer help to cook, serve, clean, and provide care for our guests!  (Each year, over 100 church members & friends participate in this event.)  Be a CARITAS volunteer – sign up in the narthex.  Donations of women’s winter coats and women’s walking shoes are needed (new shoes are welcome – pick a size - bring them in).  Note:  Women are welcome as overnight chaperones.  Contact the office if you have questions.

CARITAS IS COMING!

Southminster is one of 180 congregations in central Virginia networking to form CARITAS (Congregations Around Richmond to Assure Shelter), the largest emergency shelter in our area.  We will support the network this winter by hosting 40 women in need of emergency shelter during the week of February 4 – 11, 2012.  We are looking forward to our guests’ arrival each evening at 6:30 P.M. at which time we will serve them an ample, hot meal, and provide them with a safe, warm place to sleep in our downstairs fellowship hall beneath the sanctuary.  We will energize and mobilize during that week to cook, clean, and witness to our guests.  Please look for the CARITAS food donation chart and service sign-up sheets in the narthex, and mark down the areas in which you can serve.   If you want to speak with someone about getting more involved, please call Ken Brammer, our CARITAS Coordinator (320-3069), or contact the church office.
