CCHASM and Food Closet
CCHASM
We are a member of Chesterfield/Colonial Heights Alliance for Social Ministry that offers help to area residents in crisis situations. As a member of CCHASM we have a Food Closet that houses and distributes one week of food to families in need. 18 other churches help support this mission and serve over 300 families a year. Our clients range from the elderly with extremely high medical bills to multi-generational families dealing with lay-offs and unemployment. Ecumenical Food Closet
Southminster Presbyterian Church hosts a ecumenical food closet that is maintained through weekly donations of food by members and other churches. We offer this mission work in conjunction with Chesterfield Colonial Heights Alliance for Social Ministry (CCHASM).
CCHASM Thanksgiving Food Basket Program
In November of each year, we participate in the CCHASM THANKSGIVING program, which provides families in need with a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Checks for perishables should be sent directly to CCHASM (P.O. Box 1741, Chesterfield, VA 23834) This is a wonderful way for individuals, families, youth groups, Sunday School classes, Scout troops, etc. to be involved in sharing their blessings either by collecting money to complete baskets or by providing food items from the "prescribed list." (The cost of 1 basket is about $30 & the gift certificate for perishables is $20 – please do not put certificates in baskets). Those who can not provide the entire “basket” but would like to participate – please leave items in our food baskets at church but mark the items “CCHASM.” If giving a complete “basket” please place items in one double bagged grocery sack, mark it “Thanksgiving,” & place it by the food basket.
The complete Thanksgiving “Basket” is
- 1 - 40 oz. can yams or sweet potatoes
- 1-13oz. box mashed potatoes
- 1 -15 oz can cranberry sauce
- 2 -16 oz. cans green vegetables
- 2 -10 oz. cans of gravy
- 1 -small box or jar of ice tea mix or tea bags
- 2 -15 oz. cans of corn
- 1 - complete family desert item
- 2-16 oz. packages/bags of stuffing mix
- 1-box of hot cocoa
Anyone who can help by unloading food donations, packing baskets, assisting families picking up food, or who can help in any way should call any of these CCHASM numbers – 796-2749, 796-3715, 796-6434. It would be helpful if those volunteering would call CCHASM.
