Mentoring at Southminster Presbyterian Church

MENTORING

One of the most vital mission projects the Southminster congregation is actively participating in is the partnership with Communities in Schools of Chesterfield to provide mentors for the children at Chalkley Elementary School on Turner Road. Every year members of our congregation meet one-on-one with a student for one hour a week during the school year to read, listen, talk, play board games, work with arts and crafts, and most importantly, develop a relationship. During the 2010-2011 school year Lucille Adams, Jane Conrad, Lynn Hodges, & Gordon Pace participated in the Mentoring Program. Lucille, Jane, and Lynn will be happy to share their experiences with you as well as Bob Warren who will be returning as a mentor this year. More mentors are needed to help Southminster fulfill the commitment we made to CIS 15 years ago. If you would like to experience the program first-hand, any of the mentors will be glad to have you accompany them to the weekly meeting with their mentee. If you are interested in sharing yourself with a child, please see Jane Conrad for more information. The need is great; the “reward” beyond compare!

Mentoring Program

Members of Southminster participate in this one-on-one program with children-in-need by working with students at a local elementary school spending one hour a week at the school reading, helping with homework, playing, or just talking. The goal is to develop meaningful, positive relationships that promote self-worth.
