Community Life- Welcoming one another and worshiping together is the heart of our community life. We organize fellowship events like Wednesday Night Supper and all church picnics to strengthen the ties that bind us. We learn together in Sunday school classes, youth group and PW circles. We pray for one another and provide food for the sick. We worship together every week, singing God’s praises. These ministries are where our faithful staff spends about 80% of their time, energy, and resources and so we consider that portion of the both the personnel and office budgets to be a part of what helps our community life flourish.
Mission and Outreach- Our call to serve and share through mission and outreach is also a large part of our life together. We are generous in supporting many community organizations with our time as well as our finances. From our CCHASM food pantry, to the community festival, and beyond we are reaching out to share God’s love. Our staff also spends 20% of their time and energy here, exploring new ways to share the good news and representing Southminster in the community so we include that as a part of the ongoing work of mission and outreach.
Facilities- Finally the thing that makes all of our worship, fellowship, and service possible is our well maintained facility. Our beautiful sanctuary is the center of our worship life together as well as our wooded outdoor chapel. The fellowship hall is the home to many of the celebrations, meals, and meetings that make up our life together. The gift of having plenty of storage and a fully stocked kitchen enables us to cook monthly meals for the salvation army and partner with Caritas to give over 35 women a warm place to stay during the winter storms. Our facilities also serve as a resource to the community. We give a home to over 50 young women and girls of troop 603, host neighborhood association meetings, and serve as a center for community education through Chesterfield County. Care and maintenance of our facilities make all of our ministries possible and honors the legacy of those who built it with such care.
We hope that you will sit down as a family and reflect on the ways in which being a member of Southminster has impacted you in this past year and how you will be a part of God’s plan for us in 2015!
