We encourage one and all to participate as a volunteer, an attendee, OR both, and to “bring a friend” Registration begins Sunday, May 16th

Baobab Blast Adult Program

At Baobab Blast, the baobab tree is the central figure—the hub of activity, energy, and life. The baobab tree supports and invites community. In fact, the baobab tree is a symbol of community.

Sunday, June 20                  Gathering with Gordon

Monday, June 21                  Kalahari Krafts
Girls Scout Troop 603 is part of the Southminster Community.  Make a craft while talking with troop leaders about how the girls can benefit the church through their Bronze, Silver and Gold Award projects in the coming year. At Baobab Blast, building relationships is not just a theory; it’s a place where meaningful friendships happen.

Tuesday, June 22                Grassland Bluegrass
Gather round the Baobab tree for an old time gospel music fest!  ChurchYard Grass is a collective group of musicians who have a love for bluegrass music and a desire to minister to people. The group formed in 1994 at Fort Lee Baptist Church located in Richmond, Virginia.  They love to have fun, and they love the Lord. Get ready to experience the most amazing community get-together under the sun.
Wednesday, June 23                     Savannah Storytelling
First Choice Toastmasters Club of Chesterfield will inspire and entertain with their diverse and creative storytelling. The Bible will be brought into everyday life in meaningful and memorable ways. The baobab tree serves as a meeting place for many people to gather, discuss, and share stories.

Thursday, June 24               Serengeti Science
Baobabs store water inside the swollen trunk (up to 32,000 US gal) to endure the harsh drought conditions particular to its arid environment.  Since we don’t have Baobabs in our yards, James River Association’s Michelle Kokolis will demonstrate a rain barrel, discuss its use in your yard, water conservation, and storm water run off.

Information about VBS at Southminster

Each summer Southminster holds a five-evening Family Vacation Bible School from Sunday through Thursday of one week in either June or August.

The evening begins with a light supper served from 5:30 to 6:00 P.M.  At 6:00 children 3 years and older go to programs, activities, and choirs.  A nursery is provided for younger children.  Youth assist with the children's classes and activities.  Adults may choose from several "classes" each evening.  At 7:30 P.M. we all assemble in the Fellowship Hall for a joint activity with closing at 8:00.

We invite the community to join us for this very special time of learning more about God's love and grace and to better share that love.
