SOUPER BOWL OF CARING

The Souper Bowl of Caring encourages people to give $1 (or more) as they leave worship on Super Bowl Sunday, February 5th.  It is an effort to glorify God and care for hungry brothers and sisters.  Our Middle & High School Youth will use large soup pots to collect donations.  The effort began with the Sr. High Youth of Spring Valley Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC in 1990 and has grown to international portions.  Our Middle & High School Youth will donate the proceeds from Southminster to Freedom House Conrad Center, Richmond’s only regular meals program where hot, nutritious evening meals are provided to the homeless and working poor.  Why not bring along a can of soup for our own Food Closet?
FRIENDSHIP CLUB

The Friendship Club will have its annual Soup & Chili Luncheon on Thursday, February. 16th, at 11:30 A.M.  We’ll have a variety of soups to warm us on a cold winter day so come for soup and warm fellowship.  We look forward to seeing you!  All are welcome.

We’re also sponsoring a United States Capitol Tour on Wed., March 7th.  Members & friends are invited!  We’ll visit the gallery while Congress is in session & have lunch “on your own” at the Visitor Center (menu will be provided).  We’ll leave at 7 AM & return at 5 PM.  The nonrefundable cost is $48.50.  Make checks payable to Friendship Club (“Capitol Tour” in the memo line).  Sign-up in the narthex.

MIDDLE and HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH

What a wonderful year we have had!  From our trip to the McDonald’s river house, volunteering at the Folk Festival, progressive dinner, Crop Walk, Youth Sunday, spaghetti luncheon and other events, the year has flown by.  As we get ready to wrap things up, we wish our seniors congratulations and Godspeed on the new adventures awaiting you!   And, while you may be too old for youth group, you are never too old for hugs and catching up when you are able to come to Sunday worship!  For all the other youth, we invite you to give youth group a try either the last few meetings this year, or as a fresh start next fall.  Our time together is full of fellowship and fun, and we would love to share that with you.  Expect a few phone calls with heartfelt invitations to join our awesome SPC Youth Group.  The leaders are committed to our youth and creating a Youth Group that focuses on God through creative fun and fellowship.  Look for announcements in the bulletins for details on the last few events.  We provide almost everything that is needed - the only thing missing is you!

SOUPER BOWL RESULTS

Our Middle & High School Youth collected over $ 615 to benefit The Conrad Center of Freedom House.

We thank our youth and those contributing to the Souper Bowl of Caring.
