Southminster This Week

Happy New Year!

Friends,

I hope all of your travels have been safe and your holiday gatherings have been joyful! Despite the fact that holiday decorations are coming down all around us, the church calendar declares that it we have one more Sunday of Christmas to go! That classic song about the 12 days of Christmas originates from the Christian calendar. It doesn't have anything to do with partridges in pear trees-- instead the 12 days begin on December 25th and counts until Epiphany, day that we traditionally celebrate the Wise Men coming to visit Jesus. So come this Sunday ready to sing "We Three Kings" with all your might and reflect for a final week on the meaning of Christmas!

In Christ,

Caitlin Deyerle
This week we are praying for:

Countdown to Christmas

Friends,

Thanks to all of you who came our for our Lessons and Carol's Service last Sunday. If you missed out you can find the full video of the service on our Southminster website:

http://www.southpreschurch.org/sermons.html

We hope to begin to video more of our services in the coming months! As we do I will put links here in the weekly emails or you can bookmark the "Sermon's" page of our on your personal computer so that you can find it easily.

I hope this can be a way to reach out to members who can't always make it to worship and a way to share our services with friends and neighbors. If you know someone who might enjoy seeing these services but does not have regular access to a computer please let the office know.

Peace,

Caitlin

Advent

Friends,

As we enter the Advent season we pause amid our busy schedules to remember the reason for the season. In this email you will find many fellowship and worship events to attend in the coming weeks, but for now I will leave you with this poem for Advent by Madeline  L'Engle from her book "Winter Song":

He did not wait till the world was ready,
till men and nations were at peace.
He cam when the Heavens were unsteady,
and prisoners cried out for release.

He did not wait for the perfect time.
He came when the need was deep and great.
He dined with sinners in all their grime,
turned water into wine. He did not wait

till hearts were pure. In joy he came
to a tarnished world of sin and doubt.
To a world like ours, of anguished shame
he came, and his Light would not go out.

He came to a world which did not mesh,
to heal its tangles, shield its scorn.
In the mystery of the Word made Flesh
the Marker of the Stars was born.

We cannot wait till the world is sane
to raise our songs with joyful voice,
for to share our  grief, to touch our pain,
He came with Love: Rejoice! Rejoice!

Peace,

Rev. Caitlin Deyerle
