Covenant Pastor for Faith Formation
Southminster Presbyterian Church
 
Title: Pastor of Faith Formation
Status: Part Time, 20 hours/week
Purpose: To engage all ages in the life of the church so that they might grow in faith, experience God’s love, and serve God’s world.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Christian Education and Intergenerational Fellowship
    • Recruit and support lay leaders in planning intergenerational fellowship events including: Rally Day Picnic, Fall Festival, Birthday Party for Jesus, Easter Egg Hunt, Spring Picnic, and Summer Ice Cream Social and Bible Fun Week.
    • Build relationships with children, youth, and their families and offer pastoral care.
    • Provide resources for families to talk about faith at home. 
    • Coordinate Children’s Sunday School
      • Select curriculum, Recruit and support teachers, Oversee the upkeep of Sunday School classrooms and workroom, Oversee the nursery caregiver
    • Oversee implementation of the Child Safety Policy.
    • Participate in weekly staff meetings and quarterly Congregational Life meetings.
  • Congregational Care
    • Assist the pastor with phone calls, visitation, and funerals.
    • Assist with delivery of special care gifts- meals, prayer shawls, and flowers.
  • Worship
    • Participate in weekly worship leadership as needed, including occasional preaching if desired.
    • Creatively engage children, youth and families in weekly worship, including children’s messages, worship bags, and our children’s worship space.
    • Organize regular celebrations to mark the life milestones of our children and families including baptism, Sunday School graduation, 3rd grade bibles, confirmation, and graduation.
Minimum Qualifications- Ordained Teaching Elder, Certified Christian Educator, or Commissioned Ruling Elder. Experience working with children and knowledge of appropriate developmental education practices. Good organizational skills, pastoral attitude, and willing to work as a part of a team with other staff and volunteers.
 
Salary: $24,000 plus Pension and Benefits
Professional Expenses: $500
Personal Leave: 4 weeks, Continuing Education: 2 weeks
